Northeast Desk, 15th September: The Sikkim government has unveiled several significant infrastructure and tourism projects aimed at enhancing the region’s development and attractiveness. Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang announced plans to construct a parking facility at Nathula, located at the India-China border, which will accommodate 1,000 tourist vehicles. This initiative is designed to support the growing influx of visitors and boost tourism in the area.
In addition to the parking facility, the government plans to transform Ganesh Tok, situated on the outskirts of Gangtok, into a major tourist destination. The development will include restaurants, banquet halls, and event spaces, creating a global tourist hub that showcases Sikkim’s unique artwork and culture. The project aims to offer stunning viewpoints and integrate local cultural elements, enhancing the region’s appeal to international visitors.
Another key project is the Kanchendzonga State-of-the-Art Convention Centre in Namli, which will feature guest houses, modern conference rooms, auditoriums, a sports complex, and a wedding hall. This convention centre is expected to support both official and cultural events, further promoting local tourism and providing facilities for various activities.
The government will also address the needs of working women by constructing a 500-bedded hostel in Gangtok. This facility will provide safe and affordable accommodation, including secure housing and common areas, operated by women to ensure a supportive environment.
Additionally, the Mukhyamantri Punarvaas Awas Yojana will focus on housing and resettlement for displaced individuals or those affected by recent floods. This scheme aims to address housing needs and support affected communities.
Chief Minister Tamang emphasized the importance of incorporating Sikkimese aesthetics and traditional motifs into these projects to align with the region’s heritage and enhance its identity. These efforts reflect the government’s commitment to improving infrastructure, supporting tourism, and addressing the needs of its residents.
