Sikkim Government Seeks Urgent IAF Assistance to Airlift 1,400 Stranded Tourists After Landslides

Northeast Desk, 15th June: The Sikkim government has urgently requested assistance from the Indian Air Force (IAF) to airlift approximately 1,400 tourists stranded in North Sikkim due to heavy rainfall and subsequent landslides.

Torrential rains have caused extensive damage, washing away roads and bridges, and leaving tourists marooned in various locations. The severe downpour has severely impacted infrastructure, making many areas inaccessible and trapping tourists unable to proceed or return to safer areas.

In response, the state government has asked the IAF to deploy helicopters and other necessary resources for the evacuation of the stranded individuals. Efforts are being made to provide immediate relief and ensure the safety of those affected.

Local authorities are coordinating closely with the IAF to facilitate swift rescue operations. Meanwhile, the Sikkim government is working on restoring damaged infrastructure to reopen routes and prevent further disruptions.

Officials are urging residents and visitors to exercise caution and adhere to safety advisories. Further updates will be provided as the situation develops and rescue operations continue.
