Sikkim Governor Extends Heartfelt Greetings on 49th State Day, Emphasizes Progress and Unity
Northeast Desk, 16th May: On the occasion of Sikkim’s 49th State Day, Governor Lakshman Acharya extended warm greetings to the people, celebrating nearly five decades of the state’s democratic journey. Reflecting on Sikkim’s integration into India on May 16, 1975, Governor Acharya acknowledged the state’s remarkable progress and its intertwined destiny with the nation.
In a heartfelt message on Facebook, Governor Acharya wrote, “Today marks Sikkim’s completion of 49 years in the democratic system. The journey from voluntary integration into the world’s largest democracy on May 16, 1975, until today has been profoundly memorable and meaningful for Sikkim and its people. Sikkim has achieved remarkable development in various sectors, including social, economic, cultural, and infrastructure, under the democratic system, setting an example for other states and strengthening democracy.”
He praised Sikkim’s natural beauty, peaceful environment, rich religious traditions, and ethnic harmony as sources of inspiration for the entire nation. He urged the people of Sikkim to unite and work towards the goal of “Viksit Bharat @2047,” aiming for unprecedented progress and prosperity.
Governor Acharya’s address highlighted the importance of preserving Sikkim’s cultural heritage while enhancing the quality of life for its citizens. He called for collective efforts to overcome challenges and drive the state towards a future characterized by excellence in education, accessible healthcare, and the integration of technology.
He also emphasized the need for unity in creating opportunities for youth, promoting gender equality, reforming the education system, fostering a conducive business environment, supporting farmers, and prioritizing citizen-centric governance. Additionally, he underscored the critical role of a free and safe press and media, alongside fostering respect for intellectual and civil society.
