Sikkim Governor Flags Off Annual Health Camp to Mark 50 Years of Statehood

Gangtok— Sikkim Governor Om Prakash Mathur today flagged off the Annual Health Camp from Raj Bhavan, marking a significant initiative in public health outreach that also commemorates the 50th anniversary of Sikkim’s Statehood.

The camp, organized under the Raj Bhavan’s annual public service program, brings together medical teams from STNM Hospital, Central Referral Hospital (CRH) Manipal, and Neotia Siliguri, who departed early this morning for PTC Yangang, where the camp will be held.

Speaking at the event, Governor Mathur emphasized the camp’s importance in reaching underserved areas. “This camp is a small but sincere step in supporting the health needs of our people. For fifty years, Sikkim has moved forward in many areas—healthcare being one of the most important,” he said.

The health camp will provide free general check-ups, specialist consultations, basic screenings, and essential medicines. Additionally, the team will educate residents on preventive healthcare and healthy lifestyle practices.

Governor Mathur reflected on Sikkim’s journey since becoming the 22nd state of the Indian Union on May 16, 1975, highlighting the state’s advancements in education, infrastructure, and healthcare. “Our journey began with a dream of democracy, freedom, and development. Today, we see that dream coming true,” he added.

The Annual Health Camp is expected to benefit numerous residents of Yangang and adjoining areas, reinforcing the state’s commitment to inclusive and accessible healthcare.
