Sikkim Governor Inaugurates Jorethang Maghey Mela, Celebrates Cultural and Economic Unity
Gangtok: Sikkim Governor Om Prakash Mathur inaugurated the Jorethang Maghey Mela Utsav, a historic event that has long been a hallmark of Sikkim’s cultural and economic vibrancy. The festival, blending traditional values with modern aspirations, attracted a diverse audience, reflecting the state’s unity and progressive spirit.
During his inaugural address, Governor Mathur praised the meticulous planning and inclusive vision of the event. “Having served in various states across India, I find the efforts in Sikkim truly exceptional. I extend my gratitude to Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang for leading Sikkim toward progress and fostering unity. This event is a shining example of inclusivity, bringing together culture, sports, businesses, youth, and the general public in an unparalleled way,” he stated.
Governor Mathur highlighted the economic significance of the locally grown oranges showcased at the mela, recognizing their potential to transform Sikkim into a leading orange hub in the Northeast. “These oranges symbolize Sikkim’s agricultural richness and economic promise. Events like this open doors for business opportunities and growth,” he noted.
The Governor also commended the festival’s cultural programs for fostering a sense of unity. “The performances here embody the spirit of togetherness, which is essential for progress. Unity drives development, and events like these dispel negativity, paving the way for growth. Sikkim is the soul of India, and its harmony and beauty make it an integral part of our nation,” he added.

As part of the event, Governor Mathur distributed regularization orders to Anganwadi workers, acknowledging their critical role in grassroots development.
