Sikkim Governor Pledges ₹5 Lakh for Football Development

GANGTOK: In a significant boost to football development in Sikkim, Governor Om Prakash Mathur has announced a donation of ₹5 lakh.

The pledge was made during a meeting with Sikkim Football Association (SFA) President Menla Ethenpa and Vice President Arjun Roka at Raj Bhavan.

The SFA officials had visited the Governor to invite him to the finals of the ongoing 40th All India Governor’s Gold Cup International Football Tournament 2024, being held at Paljor Stadium.

Governor Mathur graciously accepted the invitation and extended the financial contribution as a gesture of support for sports development in the state. “This is a testament to the government’s commitment to fostering the growth of sports and encouraging young talent in Sikkim,” stated the Raj Bhavan release.

Expressing his enthusiasm, the Governor underscored the importance of promoting sports and urged stakeholders to continue their efforts in nurturing athletic potential in the region.

SFA President Menla Ethenpa expressed gratitude for the Governor’s generous contribution and unwavering support, calling it a morale boost for the association and the players.

The Governor’s Gold Cup Tournament, a premier event in Sikkim’s sports calendar, continues to draw national and international teams, cementing the state’s reputation as a hub for football.
