Sikkim Governor Reviews Border Development Progress, Accepts Invite to Youth Talent Showcase
Gangtok: Sikkim Governor Om Prakash Mathur met with Gangtok District Magistrate Tushar G. Nikhare at Raj Bhavan on April 9 to review ongoing developmental initiatives in the district, with a focused discussion on the implementation of the Vibrant Villages Programme — a key national initiative aimed at transforming remote border villages.
During the meeting, the Governor sought a comprehensive update on the progress of the scheme in Gangtok district. DM Nikhare highlighted several impactful projects, notably the Kuzu Eco Park at Gnathang, which has been sanctioned by the Ministry of Home Affairs and is currently being executed by the Government of Sikkim. The project is set to promote rural tourism, foster sustainable livelihoods, and strengthen economic prospects for communities in the strategically significant border regions.
Impressed by the district’s development agenda, Governor Mathur commended the administration for its dedication to enhancing rural infrastructure and improving the quality of life in remote areas. He praised the cooperative efforts of both the state and central governments in advancing inclusive growth along the Himalayan frontier.
In a related gesture, the District Magistrate extended a formal invitation to the Governor to grace the upcoming “Gangtok Got Talent” event as Chief Guest. The cultural showcase, spearheaded by the District Administrative Centre in partnership with the NGO Stars of Hope, aligns with the national missions of Beti Bachao Beti Padhao and the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan.
The event aims to harness the creative energies of youth while raising awareness on critical issues such as gender equality and substance abuse prevention. By providing a constructive platform for artistic expression, the programme aspires to inspire young minds and foster a deeper sense of community engagement.
Governor Mathur accepted the invitation with warmth and conveyed his best wishes for the success of the event. He also applauded the District Magistrate for his proactive leadership and unwavering commitment to public service in Gangtok.
