Sikkim Govt Launches Helicopter Evacuation for Stranded Locals
Gangtok: The Sikkim government has initiated a special helicopter sortie to evacuate stranded locals, tourist taxi drivers, and government officials from Chaten, where road access has been severely disrupted due to adverse weather conditions. The first sortie took off from Pakyong Greenfield Airport, marking the beginning of the rescue operation.
The government has reaffirmed its commitment to citizen safety, assuring that all necessary measures are being taken to support those affected in the region. Earlier, on June 7, at least 76 Army personnel were airlifted from Chaten by three MI-17 helicopters.
With road connectivity cut off, the air evacuation operation is crucial in providing relief to those stranded. The state government continues to closely monitor the situation, remaining committed to providing all necessary support and assistance to those affected by natural calamities.
The evacuation efforts are ongoing, with the government working tirelessly to ensure the safe rescue of those in need. The situation remains under close observation, and further updates are expected as the rescue operation progresses.
