Sikkim Govt to Resume Issuing Permits for Tsomgo Lake and Nathula Pass

Northeast Desk, 13th October: The Sikkim state government has decided to resume the issuance of permits for Tsomgo Lake and Nathula Pass after experiencing massive flash floods earlier this month. A notification from the state tourism department announces that permits for Nathula Pass and Tsomgo Lake will be issued starting from October 17, 2023.

An officer from the Permit Cell, wishing to remain anonymous, mentioned that they had received requests from tourism stakeholders to allow vehicles to travel to Tsomgo Lake and other tourist destinations. In response to these requests, permits will be issued, but caution is being exercised due to the recent heavy snowfall, making the roads slippery and increasing the risk of accidents. The authorities will only allow vehicles when it is deemed safe after the snow is cleared.

The decision to halt permit issuance was made due to concerns about potential mishaps during heavy snowfall.
