Sikkim Halts Vehicular Movement for ‘A Day for Mother Earth’

Northeast Desk, 7th July: Today, Sikkim witnessed a profound gesture towards environmental conservation as the state observed ‘A Day for Mother Earth.’ From 11:00 am to 11:07 am, all vehicular movement across Sikkim came to a standstill in a concerted effort to raise awareness about environmental issues, particularly global warming and climate change.

The initiative, spearheaded by local authorities, aimed to underscore the significant impact of human activities on the environment. Traffic police played a pivotal role in ensuring strict adherence to the pause, granting exemptions only for emergency and essential services during the designated period.

This symbolic gesture underscores Sikkim’s commitment to fostering environmental consciousness and promoting sustainable practices among its residents.
