Sikkim: “Happiness Run 2024” Draws Over 115 Runners in Geyzing
Northeast Desk, 21st May: More than 115 enthusiastic runners from various parts of Sikkim, Mumbai, Darjeeling, Kalimpong, Kurseong, Mirik, and Siliguri participated in the “Happiness Run 2024,” a 10-kilometer run held in Geyzing on May 19. The event, organized by Amar Subba Marathon Man in collaboration with the Geyzing-based Cherry Foundation, aimed to promote fitness and happiness through sports.
The 10K run commenced from Kyongsha Stadium, winding through scenic routes including Langang and Tikjek areas, before concluding back at Kyongsha Stadium. The run was ceremoniously flagged off by Gyalsing DC West IAS M. Bharani Kumar, adding an official touch to the event.
In the women’s open category, Anjali Subba from Gangtok clinched the first position, followed by Bandana Subba from Darjeeling in second place and Sabina Rai from Kalimpong in third.
Among the men, Vittal Rajput from Maharashtra secured the top spot, with Ganga Hang Subba from Dentam and Rinchen Lepcha from Gangtok claiming second and third place respectively.
In the age category of 36-49 years for male athletes, Pravesh Tamang from Darjeeling emerged victorious, followed by Bir Bahadur Rai from Jorethang in second place and Sudip Pradhan from Darjeeling in third. Mirik’s Anuda Tamang secured the first position in the women’s category for the same age group, with Shanti Rai and Sangita Rai from South Sikkim finishing second and third respectively.
The event also included a category for runners above 50 years old, emphasizing inclusivity and participation across all age groups.
Winners were honored with cash prizes, medals, and certificates in recognition of their achievements. Amar Subba extended his gratitude to Cherry Foundation and its founder Sushil Tamang for their financial support, as well as to the District Administration, District Police, Sports and Youth Affairs, Geyzing, and District Hospital, Geyzing, along with individuals who contributed to the success of the event.
