Sikkim: Heavy Rain Triggers Landslides in Dentam Hardest Hit
Northeast Desk, 20th June: Sikkim has been grappling with widespread landslides caused by relentless heavy rainfall, especially affecting Dentam in West Sikkim. While fortunately, no human casualties have been reported, the landslides have caused significant damage to properties and resulted in the loss of livestock.
The continuous rain has destabilized the terrain, leading to the destruction of several houses and the loss of numerous cattle. Local authorities are currently conducting assessments to determine the full extent of the damage and are actively engaged in providing relief to affected residents.
Emergency response teams have been mobilized to clear debris and restore access to blocked roads. Residents residing in vulnerable areas have been urged to remain vigilant and adhere to safety advisories issued by local authorities.
Efforts are underway to support those impacted by the landslides, with coordinated relief operations led by government and local agencies. This includes efforts to provide temporary shelter, food, and medical assistance to displaced individuals and families
