Sikkim: Heavy Snowfall Strands Hundreds of Vehicles and Tourists Near Nathula Pass
Guwahati, Assam, India – Severe weather has struck the popular tourist circuit of Nathula and Tsomgo Lake in Sikkim, leaving hundreds of vehicles and numerous tourists stranded as of Monday, April 14th.
Official sources have indicated that more than 1,500 vehicles, all possessing the necessary permits, had gained access to the picturesque route earlier in the day. However, a sudden and intense bout of snowfall has rendered many of these vehicles immobile.
The region most severely impacted is concentrated around the Changu Lake and Nathula Pass stretch, where the heavy accumulation of snow has caused significant traffic jams and complete road closures.
Responding promptly to the emergency, district authorities have initiated comprehensive rescue and evacuation procedures aimed at providing assistance to the stranded travelers.
In tandem with the rescue efforts, road-clearing equipment has been deployed to expedite the process of removing snow and restoring the flow of traffic. Government officials have assured that all possible measures are being taken to ensure the safety and timely return of every individual affected by the adverse weather, despite the persistent challenging conditions.
The local administration is strongly advising all travelers to remain informed through official channels for the latest updates and to refrain from traveling to restricted areas until the weather situation improves and stability is restored.
