Sikkim Honours 210 Women in Inaugural Aama Samman Diwas, Launches Nari Adalat

Rangpo, Sikkim – The Sikkim Krantikari Morcha (SKM) government marked a significant day for women’s empowerment with the inaugural Aama Samman Diwas on Sunday. Coinciding with the party’s 8th Jan Unmukti Diwas, the celebrations at Rangpo Playground were a heartfelt tribute to 210 women from across the state who have toiled in silence for their communities.

Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang (P.S. Golay) led the state in honouring these unsung heroes, whose contributions keep essential services running smoothly. “These mothers are the backbone of our communities,” the Chief Minister stated, highlighting their tireless dedication across various sectors. The recognition, a first of its kind, was bestowed upon women from a diverse range of professions, each category featuring five representatives from all six districts of Sikkim. The honourees included 15 Safai Mitras from STNM and various district hospitals, 30 each of ASHA and Anganwadi workers, and 30 members of self-help groups. Additionally, 15 Safai Mitras from municipal bodies, 30 panchayat representatives, 30 PWD workers, and 30 mid-day meal cooks were also felicitated.

The Department of Women, Child, Senior Citizens, and Divyangjan Welfare also used the occasion to inaugurate the Nari Adalat, a groundbreaking initiative aimed at providing a dedicated platform for women to seek justice. Chief Minister Tamang hailed the move as a major step towards gender equality and social empowerment, promising a more accessible and fair system for resolving disputes. The dual celebrations underscored the SKM government’s commitment to both recognising the immense contributions of women and creating robust mechanisms to safeguard their rights and welfare.
