Sikkim Hosts First Day of Training for Counting Officials Ahead of Elections

Northeast Desk, 14th May: The first day of training for Counting Supervisors, Counting Assistants, and Micro Observers was successfully conducted at the Conference Hall of the District Administration Centre in Gangtok, Sikkim on May 13. This essential training program aims to prepare officials for the upcoming election counting process.

Key attendees included Mr. Sunny Kharel, the SDM Soreng-cum-State Level Master Trainer, Mr. Sonam Wongyal Lepcha, the District Planning Officer-cum-Nodal Officer for the Training Management Team, and Mr. Jigme Wangchuk Bhutia, another State Level Master Trainer.

Mr. Sunny Kharel led the training with a comprehensive presentation on the roles of counting officials, the layout of the Electronic Voting Machine (EVM) counting tables, and the Postal Ballot/Home Voting Counting Tables. His session included a live demonstration of the EVM counting process, supplemented with real-life scenarios that officials might encounter on the counting day. Practical sessions covered Form 13 A, Form 13 B, and Form 13 C, along with special cases involving Control Units and the procedures for counting votes recorded in EVMs.

Mr. Jigme Wangchuk Bhutia focused on the counting process for VVPATs (Voter Verified Paper Audit Trail) and the handling of VVPAT slips. He explained the recounting process, special cases related to Control Units, and the necessary documentation for VVPATs, including Annexure-A, and the norms related to VVPAT handling.

The training program was divided into two sessions, one in the morning and another in the evening, with a total of 99 officials participating. This initiative underscores the commitment to ensuring a smooth and efficient counting process for the upcoming elections in Sikkim.
