Sikkim: Indian Orchid Festival 2025 Concludes, Showcasing Floriculture and Community Engagement
Gangtok: The Indian Orchid Festival 2025 concluded today at ICAR-NRCO, marking the end of a vibrant four-day celebration under the theme “Orchids for Beauty and Prosperity.”
The national event highlighted the growing significance of orchids in India’s floriculture industry while fostering collaboration between experts, enthusiasts, and local communities.
The festival’s final day featured a specialized technical session on bonsai cultivation, offering valuable insights into the art and science of growing miniature trees. Adding to the event’s community-driven focus, Self-Help Groups (SHGs) displayed their handmade products and organized a food court, drawing attention to grassroots entrepreneurship in the sector. Representatives from various orchid societies also participated, sharing their expertise and contributing to discussions on best practices and innovations in orchid cultivation.
The closing ceremony was marked by a prize distribution event, honoring winners in multiple categories and recognizing the contributions of societies and officials towards the advancement of floriculture. Dignitaries in attendance included Dr. S.P. Das, Director of ICAR-NRCO, Sikkim, alongside industry experts, orchid farmers, and members of the public. The festival reinforced the role of orchids in both economic and environmental sustainability while strengthening industry networks and community participation.
