Sikkim Introduces Rs 50 Entry Fee for Tourists to Boost Tourism Infrastructure

Gangtok: Tourists visiting Sikkim will now be required to pay an entry fee of ₹50, as per a new directive issued by the state government. The fee collection has been implemented under the Sikkim Registration of Tourist Trade Rules 2025, which came into effect this month.

According to officials, the amount is collected at hotels during check-in and is deposited into the Tourism Sustainability Development (TSD) Fund, aimed at enhancing tourism-related infrastructure and services across the state. The levy applies to all tourists except children under the age of five and is valid for stays of up to 30 days. If a tourist revisits the state after a month, the fee will be charged again.

The state government plans to utilize the revenue generated from this initiative to improve road connectivity, cleanliness, and tourism infrastructure, ensuring a better experience for visitors. Officials emphasized that the move aligns with Sikkim’s commitment to sustainable tourism and responsible development while maintaining the state’s reputation as a premier travel destination in the Northeast.
