Sikkim Krantikari Morcha Celebrates 16th Rholu Diwas with Grandeur and Fervor

Gangtok: The ruling Sikkim Krantikari Morcha (SKM) marked the 16th Rholu Diwas today with grandeur at the Rholu Mandir premises in the Melli constituency of Namchi district.

The event, imbued with religious and political significance, was a momentous occasion for the people of Sikkim, with party workers dedicating weeks to its meticulous preparation.

Rholu Diwas traces its origins to December 21, 2009, when the Rholu Mandir became the cradle of the “Parivartan movement” led by Prem Singh Tamang, now Sikkim’s Chief Minister. Then an MLA of the Sikkim Democratic Front, Tamang’s call for “Parivartan” eventually propelled SKM to a historic victory in the 2019 state elections.

SKM Secretary General Arun Upreti emphasized the event’s importance in Sikkim’s political and cultural narrative. “This is a significant day for the people of Sikkim. Rholu Diwas blends religious rituals with cultural celebrations, and we eagerly await announcements from our Chief Minister that will benefit the public,” Upreti remarked. He extended an open invitation to all citizens to join the festivities, which commenced at 9 a.m. with religious ceremonies and cultural performances.

Bikash Basnett, Political Secretary to the Chief Minister and SKM spokesperson, described Rholu Diwas as the foundation of the party’s journey. “This event represents the vision and revolution initiated by our leader, CM Prem Singh Tamang. It’s a testament to the people’s faith in the SKM’s commitment to Sikkim’s development,” Basnett stated. He also lauded the government’s achievements in health, education, and infrastructure over the past five years.

The celebration of Rholu Diwas holds deep cultural resonance for SKM members, equated in spirit to festivals like Dashain and Tihar. Despite the challenges faced while in opposition, the party has consistently observed this day as a symbol of perseverance and dedication. “This day is as cherished as any religious festival. It reflects our resilience and commitment to the people of Sikkim,” Basnett added.

As the day unfolded, the mix of rituals, cultural programs, and community gatherings underscored the enduring legacy of Rholu Diwas, cementing its place as a defining moment in Sikkim’s political and cultural history.
