Sikkim Leaders Mark World Environment Day with Symbolic Tree-Planting Ceremony
Northeast Desk, 5th June: On World Environment Day 2024, a ceremonial event at the Rajbhawan premises showcased Sikkim’s dedication to environmental conservation. Governor Laxman Prasad Acharya, Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang, and First Lady Krishna Kumari Rai participated in a symbolic tree-planting ceremony, reinforcing their commitment to preserving the state’s rich biodiversity.
During the event, Governor Acharya, Chief Minister Tamang, and First Lady Rai planted saplings of Rudraksha, Rhododendron, and Large Cardamom. These species, native to Sikkim, symbolize the leaders’ dedication to sustainable practices and environmental preservation.
Governor Acharya highlighted the innovative ‘Mero Rukh Mero Santati’ initiative, a unique program that aims to plant 108 trees for every newborn in Sikkim, fostering a deep connection between nature, parents, and children. He expressed his appreciation for this groundbreaking initiative that promotes environmental stewardship from birth.
The participation of Governor Acharya, Chief Minister Tamang, and First Lady Rai in the ceremony underscores the importance of environmental conservation in state governance. Their leadership serves as an inspiration for citizens to actively engage in protecting the environment and addressing climate change.
