Sikkim Livestock Development Board Holds 37th Meeting

Gangtok: The Sikkim Livestock Development Board (SLDB) convened its 37th board meeting on June 7, marking the first gathering after a two-year hiatus. The meeting was chaired by Dr. Sharman Rai, Secretary of Animal Husbandry & Veterinary Services (AH&VS) and Chairman of SLDB.

The session saw the attendance of distinguished officials, including principal directors, directors, and the CEO of SLDB. During the meeting, an in-depth discussion was held on the implementation of the Rashtriya Gokul Mission in Sikkim, aimed at strengthening indigenous cattle breeds.

A significant decision was made to reduce the price of sex-sorted semen from Rs 150 to Rs 50, benefiting the Sikkimese farming community. The Board also deliberated on the genetic improvement of indigenous cattle breeds, deciding to conduct intensive training programs for farmers and Artificial Insemination (AI) technicians.

These initiatives aim to enhance genetic quality, boost farmers’ economic well-being, and promote sustainable livestock development in Sikkim. The meeting highlighted SLDB’s commitment to innovative and inclusive livestock development strategies, fostering economic growth and improving livelihood opportunities in the region.

The session concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Dr. Pratik Sharma, CEO of SLDB, emphasizing the Board’s dedication to the development of the livestock sector in Sikkim.
