Sikkim: Man Arrested for Alleged Murder of Wife in Soreng District

Northeast Desk, 6th September: Police in Soreng District, Sikkim, have arrested Hem Chandra Rai, 45, in connection with the brutal murder of his wife, Meera Rai, 47. The arrest followed an extensive search operation after Meera’s body was discovered at their residence in Baiguney.

According to the First Information Report (FIR) filed by Karna Bahadur Rai at Nayabazar Police Station, Hem Chandra allegedly killed his wife by striking her in the face with a stone before fleeing the scene. The gruesome incident prompted an immediate police response.

Superintendent of Police Nahkul Pradhan confirmed that the accused was apprehended after a manhunt led by officers from Nayabazar Police Station. A case has been registered under Section 103 of the BNS, 2023.

Hem Chandra Rai is currently in police custody and is expected to be presented before the court tomorrow for remand.
