Sikkim: Man Detained for Allegedly Impregnating Mentally Challenged Woman

Northeast Desk, 26th July: A man has been arrested in Sikkim’s Gangtok district on charges of impregnating a mentally challenged woman, an official confirmed on Friday.

The arrest followed a complaint lodged by the victim’s sister, who grew concerned after noticing her sister had missed her menstrual periods for around three months. Subsequent medical tests confirmed the pregnancy.

According to the First Information Report (FIR), the woman disclosed that the accused, known to her, had coerced her into his vehicle and sexually assaulted her during a road trip. The Sikkim State Commission for Women played a crucial role in assisting the victim’s family in filing the police complaint.

The Gangtok Sadar police arrested the accused on Wednesday. The investigation is ongoing as authorities gather more evidence and seek justice for the victim.
