Sikkim: Mangan District Wins ‘Swachhata Hi Sewa’ Award for Exemplary Cleanliness Efforts
Northeast Desk, 3rd October: Mangan district in Sikkim has been awarded the prestigious Swachhata Hi Sewa award for its outstanding contributions to cleanliness and sanitation. The district’s concerted efforts, led by District Magistrate Anant Jain, played a crucial role in securing this recognition.
DM Jain credited the success to the collective dedication of district staff, including Block Development Officers (BDOs) and Additional District Collectors (ADCs), whose hard work in identifying and cleaning black spots across the district paid off. Key initiatives included cleaning public offices and corridors and organizing health camps for safai mitras, the frontline workers responsible for maintaining sanitation.
In addition to these efforts, Mangan engaged students in awareness activities such as painting and singing competitions, instilling the importance of cleanliness in schools. These activities helped build a strong sense of community participation, one of the core pillars of the campaign.
The Swachhata Hi Sewa initiative, which commenced on September 7, focused on cleanliness, sanitation, and public involvement. Mangan district’s exemplary performance across these areas earned it top honors, highlighting its commitment to creating a cleaner, healthier environment for all.
