Sikkim MP Urges Swift Resumption of Flights from Pakyong Airport
Gangtok: Sikkim MP Indra Hang Subba met Union Minister of Civil Aviation Ram Mohan Naidu at Parliament House, pressing for urgent measures to resume flight operations from Pakyong Airport.
During the discussion, Subba highlighted the severe inconvenience faced by Sikkim’s residents and the negative impact on the state’s tourism sector due to the prolonged suspension of flights. He strongly criticised SpiceJet Airlines, accusing it of deliberate delays in restarting services, which have disrupted connectivity and economic activities in the region.
The MP recalled that he had already raised this concern on March 1, during his meeting with Minister of State for Civil Aviation & Cooperation, Murlidhar Mohol, in Gangtok. Expressing deep frustration over the continued inaction, he urged immediate intervention from the Union Minister to resolve the matter.
Subba proposed a high-level meeting involving SpiceJet representatives, the Civil Aviation Department of Sikkim, and the Ministry of Civil Aviation officials to explore solutions and expedite the revival of flight operations. He emphasized the need for a collaborative approach to address the long-standing issue effectively.
In response, Union Minister Ram Mohan Naidu assured Subba that the Ministry of Civil Aviation would soon convene a meeting with all relevant stakeholders to discuss and resolve the situation at the earliest.
