Sikkim: NH-10 Set to Reopen on October 25 with Strict Weight Restrictions for Heavy Vehicles
Gangtok: After undergoing extensive repairs, National Highway-10 is set to reopen for all vehicular traffic on October 25 at 6:00 am, though with strict regulations in place, particularly for heavy commercial vehicles.
The highway, which serves as a crucial link between West Bengal’s plains and its hilly regions, will now allow passage under careful monitoring.
Heavy vehicles will be subject to a 10-metric-ton weight limit, as announced by the Executive Engineer of National Highway Division No. IX, West Bengal.
This restriction has been imposed to ensure the stability of the recently repaired highway sections.
To further safeguard against congestion and potential damage, authorities have enforced single-lane traffic flow at six key points along a 40-kilometre stretch, including heavily trafficked areas like Kalijhora and Mamkhola.
District officials will manage the traffic and strictly monitor the weight compliance of commercial vehicles as part of the safety measures.
This cautious reopening aims to balance the flow of traffic while preserving the structural integrity of the highway following significant repair work.
