Sikkim: NHRC Requests Gangtok SP a Report in Relation to Singtam Incident
Guwahati: The Superintendent of Police in Gangtok has been ordered by the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) to submit an action within 8 weeks taken report regarding the Singtam violence incident that took place on April 8.
During a rally in Singtam on April 8, some unidentified criminals assaulted Joint Action Committee (JAC) general secretary Keshav Sapkota.
Keshav Sapkota was sent right away to District Hospital Singtam before being later sent to CRH Manipal for additional medical care. Following the incident, JAC filed a case under No. 16/2023, dated: 08.04.2023 under section 325/34 of the IPC against unidentified individuals.
According to reports, councilman Suresh Tamang was one of a total of 14 people arrested in connection with the incident.
Ajay Tamang was allegedly assaulted on head with an iron hammer by Keshav Sapkota, Kedarnath Tiwari, Navin Karki and others with the intent to kill him, according to Suresh Tamang, who also filed a FIR against Keshav Sapkota and KN Towari.
After receiving medical care at District Hospital Singtam, Ajay Tamang was then sent for additional care to CRH Manipal.
On April 8, while the Joint Action Committee (JAC) was holding a protest in Singtam, Sikkim there was a violent incident. Although the gathering was supposed to be peaceful, some unknown criminals attacked JAC general secretary Keshav Sapkota.
