Gangtok: A pall of gloom has descended over Sikkim as nine individuals remain untraceable after a tourist vehicle, with eleven souls on board, met with a devastating accident, plunging into the ferocious Teesta river late Thursday evening. The ill-fated journey unfolded along the challenging Chungthang-Lachen highway, leaving a trail of shock and concern in its wake.
The grim incident transpired between Chungthang and Munshithang. The vehicle, ferrying ten eager tourists and their seasoned driver, inexplicably veered off the arterial highway, hurtling into the gushing waters below. Emergency services, demonstrating remarkable alacrity, immediately swung into action, launching extensive search and rescue operations that continue with relentless determination around the clock.
In a glimmer of hope amidst the tragedy, two survivors have been pulled from the vehicle’s mangled remains. They received immediate medical attention at the Chungthang field hospital before being swiftly transported to the STNM Hospital in Gangtok for more comprehensive treatment. Authorities, however, have chosen to keep their current medical condition under wraps, respecting their privacy during this critical period.
