Sikkim observes ‘Nathu La Day’; Tributes Paid to Indian Soldiers Who Fought in 1967 India-China Conflict
Northeast Desk, 12th September: The 58th anniversary of Nathu La Day was commemorated on September 11, honoring the Indian soldiers who sacrificed their lives in the 1967 India-China conflict. A ceremony was held at the Sherathang War Memorial at Nathu La Pass, attended by Sikkim Governor Om Prakash Mathur, Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang, and Major General Amit Kabhtiyal.
The Governor emphasized the significance of Nathu La Vijay Diwas, stressing the need for a film to commemorate the victory and inspire the youth to join the armed forces. Chief Minister Tamang announced that Nathu La Day would be celebrated as ‘Nathu La Vijay Diwas’ from next year, paying tribute to the brave soldiers who protect the nation’s sovereignty.
Sikkim High Court Chief Justice Biswanath Somadder highlighted the historic significance of Nathu La Diwas, marking a pivotal moment for establishing peace along the border. The ceremony was also attended by senior officials from the Indian Army, Sikkim Police, and state government.
The occasion honored the valour and sacrifice of the Indian Army soldiers who fought in the 1967 conflict, ensuring their memories and contributions are forever remembered.
