Sikkim on the Verge of Airport Development to Propel Tourism
Gangtok: Sikkim is poised to receive its much-anticipated airport, a development heralded by Union Minister Ramdas Athawale as a significant step towards bolstering the state’s thriving tourism industry.
During a recent press conference, Minister Athawale articulated the central government’s unwavering dedication to the holistic advancement of Sikkim.
He lauded the state’s exceptional achievements in the tourism sector, attributing this success to the dynamic leadership of Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang.
Minister Athawale, who holds the portfolio of Minister of State for Social Justice and Empowerment, is currently engaged in a two-day visit to the picturesque northeastern state.
He further emphasized the remarkable strides made by the entire Northeast region under the visionary guidance of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Notably, the Sikkim state unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has been a strong advocate for the establishment of an all-weather international airport within the state, underscoring its potential to significantly enhance tourism.
The state’s existing Pakyong airport has frequently encountered operational challenges due to adverse low visibility conditions, resulting in service disruptions that can extend for several months.
