Sikkim orders blanket ban on sale and use of firecrackers in Diwali

The Sikkim Government has issued an order on ban on sale and use of firecrackers during Diwali. The Chief Secretary of Sikkim SC Gupta released an order under section 522 (2) (h) Disaster Management Act 2005, banned bursting fire crackers, citing concern about air pollution.

Sikkim has became the first state in Northeastern India to purpose a blanket ban on sale and use of firecrackers during Diwali. Busting of firecrackers increase air pollution which may prove hazardous for recovered and active COVID-19 patients.
