Sikkim: Pakyong Aces Smash Their Way to Glory in 50th Statehood Bash
Sikkim: Pakyong district recently buzzed with shuttlecock enthusiasm as a thrilling badminton tournament unfolded, marking Sikkim’s glorious 50th statehood anniversary. The Multi-Purpose Community Hall in Pakyong was the epicentre of this high-octane event, a joint effort by the Pakyong District Zilla Panchayat and the District Administrative Centre, with staunch backing from the Badminton Association of Pakyong (BAP).
The tournament saw an impressive turnout of government employees and Zilla Panchayat members from across the district, all eager to showcase their prowess on the court. Categories such as Mixed Doubles, Open Men’s Doubles, and age-specific Men’s Doubles (Above 40 and 50 years) ensured a wide spectrum of spirited competition.
The event was graced by the esteemed presence of L.B. Das, MLA and Advisor to the Land Revenue, IPR, and Information Technology departments, who presided as the chief guest. He was joined by a distinguished lineup of officials including Zilla Adhakshya Laden Lhamu Bhutia, Zilla Up-Adhakshya Prabha Pradhan, and District Collector Agwane Rohan Ramesh, among many other Zilla Panchayat members and government officials, all lending their enthusiastic support.
The courts witnessed some truly exhilarating rallies, with players displaying exceptional skill, strategic play, and admirable teamwork. The air was thick with anticipation as the winners were eventually felicitated by the Chief Guest, receiving well-deserved trophies that added a sparkling touch to the memorable occasion. In a delightful twist that sent cheers echoing through the hall, MLA L.B. Das even picked up a racket for an exhibition match, much to the delight of the audience and fellow players.
