Sikkim: Phurba Lachenpa Clinches Golden Glove in ISL 2023-24 Season
Northeast Desk, 5th May: In a momentous achievement for Sikkim and the entire Northeast region, Phurba Lachenpa has secured his place in Indian football history by clinching the Golden Glove award in the 2023-24 Indian Super League (ISL) season.
As the custodian for Mumbai City FC, Lachenpa showcased his exceptional goalkeeping prowess throughout the season, earning recognition as the best goalkeeper with his remarkable clean sheet record.
The 10th edition of the ISL witnessed thrilling encounters, with Lachenpa’s standout performances crucial to Mumbai City FC’s runner-up finish and their triumphant victory in the ISL Trophy final against league champions Mohun Bagan Super Giant on May 4 at Kolkata’s renowned YBK Stadium.
Despite stiff competition from Vishal Kaith of Mohun Bagan and Amrinder Singh of Odisha FC, both of whom also secured nine clean sheets each, Lachenpa’s achievement in achieving the same number in fewer matches ultimately tipped the scales in his favor, solidifying his position as the Golden Glove winner of the season.
