Sikkim Police Arrest Man for Alleged Sexual Assault of Elderly Woman

Northeast Desk, 4th July: Sikkim police have arrested a man in Gyalshing district for allegedly sexually assaulting a 69-year-old woman at her house. The arrest followed a written FIR submitted by the victim’s family on August 2 around 4:50 pm, detailing the incident that occurred on July 30. According to the FIR, the accused visited the victim’s home at approximately 9:30 am and committed the assault.

Following the complaint, the police launched an investigation and promptly arrested the accused. The victim was taken to Dentam PHC for a medical examination, and her statement was recorded in the presence of her legal daughter. The accused also underwent a medical examination, and pertinent evidence was preserved.

Authorities have requested the Law Secretary through SP Gyalshing to appoint a forensic expert to further examine the evidence. The investigation is ongoing, and more details are expected to emerge.

In a related incident last month, Sikkim police arrested a man in Gangtok district on charges of impregnating a mentally challenged woman. The arrest came after the woman’s sister lodged a complaint, revealing the pregnancy after noticing the absence of her sister’s menstrual periods for about three months, which a subsequent test confirmed.
