Sikkim Police Rescue Six Stranded Tourists Amid Heavy Snowfall in North Sikkim

Gangtok: Sikkim police, in coordination with locals, successfully rescued six tourists from Assam who were stranded in North Sikkim’s Yakshe due to heavy snowfall. The group, traveling on motorcycles, had become stuck about 10 km from Lachung in the Mangan district.

According to a police officer, the motorcycles were unable to move due to black ice on the roads, which created hazardous conditions for travel. After a swift rescue operation, the Border Roads Organisation (BRO) worked through the night and managed to clear the road to Yumthang Valley by the morning of December 30.

Authorities have cautioned travelers to remain vigilant, as black ice continues to pose a serious risk on the region’s roads. They urged visitors to check updated road conditions and take appropriate safety measures before embarking on journeys in these high-altitude areas.
