Sikkim: SDF Announces Initial Candidate List for Assembly Elections
Northeast Desk, 11th March: The Sikkim Democratic Front (SDF) has unveiled its initial list of six candidates for the upcoming Assembly elections, marking a significant move ahead of the polls.
Speaking after a peace rally, SDF party chief Pawan Chamling confirmed the candidates, emphasizing their selection for the electoral battle ahead.
The list features prominent names, including SDF President Pawan Chamling, a seasoned politician with a notable track record. Chamling, a five-time former Chief Minister and eight-time MLA, will once again contest from Namchi-Singhithang, his longstanding constituency, aiming for an unprecedented eighth victory since 1985. Notably, Chamling has previously secured victories in Poklok-Kamrang and Rangang-Yangang in past elections.
Joining Chamling on the roster are other candidates who are set to represent their respective constituencies. These include Norzang Lepcha from Tunim Lingee, Hissey Lachungpa from Lachen Mangan, Gnawong Chopel Lepcha from Kabi Lungchok, Ashis Rai from Arithang, and Sonam Gyasto Lepcha from Dzongu.
With this lineup, the SDF is poised to challenge the PS Tamang-led SKM government, with Chamling eyeing a historic sixth term as Chief Minister, aiming to solidify his legacy in Sikkimese politics.
