Sikkim: SDF Seeks President’s Rule in State Amid Deteriorating Law and Order

Northeast Desk, 6th March: The Sikkim Democratic Front (SDF) has urged Governor Lakshman Prasad Acharya to impose President’s rule in the state, citing the worsening law and order situation under the Sikkim Krantikari Morcha (SKM) government.

In a memorandum submitted to the Governor, SDF President Pawan Chamling highlighted the recent attack on KN Rai, former Speaker of Sikkim, labeling it as a brutal attempt to murder. The memorandum expressed concern over the failure of the authorities to apprehend the mastermind behind the attack, despite the FIRs filed by the party.

The SDF accused the SKM government of lacking moral integrity and demanded the immediate resignation of the Chief Minister. Emphasizing the government’s failure to address criminal activities and prosecute culprits over the past five years, the SDF underscored the need for decisive action.

The memorandum called upon the Governor to exercise his special powers under Article 371 F (g) of the Constitution of India to dismiss the current administration and institute President’s Rule. This move, the SDF argued, would ensure the conduct of upcoming elections in a free, fair, and peaceful manner, aligning with the Election Commission of India’s objectives.
