Sikkim Shaken by 4.4 Magnitude Earthquake, No Casualties Reported

Northeast Desk, 9th August: In the early hours of August 9, Sikkim experienced a tremor as a 4.4 magnitude earthquake struck the region. The quake, which occurred at approximately 6:57 am, was reported by the National Center for Seismology. The epicenter was pinpointed at coordinates 27.22N, 88.33E, with the quake originating at a depth of 10 kilometers beneath the surface.

The epicenter, located about 29 kilometers from Tadong, resulted in tremors being felt across much of the state. Despite the significant magnitude, no casualties or infrastructure damage have been reported so far.

This recent event follows a mild earthquake that struck Assam’s Karbi Anglong region on June 26, registering a magnitude of 3.2. That quake, which occurred at 9:54 pm, originated from a depth of 25 kilometers. Both incidents serve as reminders of the seismic activity that regularly impacts the northeastern region of India.
