Sikkim: Singshore Suspension Bridge to be Transformed into Glass-Deck Skywalk
Northeast Desk, 24th September: The iconic Singshore suspension bridge in Dentam, Gyalshing district, Sikkim, is set to undergo a transformation into a glass-deck skywalk bridge following approval from the Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER). This ambitious project aims to enhance tourism in the region by offering visitors breathtaking panoramic views of the surrounding landscapes.
Standing at over 100 meters in height and stretching 240 meters in length, the Singshore bridge is recognized as the highest bridge in Sikkim and the second-highest in Asia, according to the Tourism Ministry’s website.
The project will be managed by the Tourism and Civil Aviation department of the Sikkim government. In a letter dated September 20 to the District Magistrate of Gyalshing district, the chief engineer confirmed that the bridge, previously under the jurisdiction of the Roads and Bridges department, has been officially transferred for technical testing and conversion work.
As a part of the preliminary project activities, vehicular movement across the bridge has been temporarily suspended, with the closure expected to last until September 26. Commuters are advised to use an alternate diversion road, which remains accessible for all vehicle types.
This development is anticipated to position the Singshore bridge as a major tourist attraction, significantly boosting local tourism.
