Sikkim: Soreng District Launches ‘Soreng District Reads’ Initiative to Promote Reading Culture
Northeast Desk, 27th April: Soreng District Collector Yishey D Yongda inaugurated the ‘Soreng District Reads’ initiative at Hingwatar, Chakung on April 26, aiming to prioritize reading among the community.
Designed to foster a love for reading among young children and school students, the initiative intends to establish silent reading chapters across the district, fostering creativity and community engagement through the act of reading.
During the launch program, the District Collector emphasized the importance of cultivating reading habits from a young age, highlighting its role in reducing gadget dependency and addressing societal challenges.
Yongda underscored the long-term benefits of reading, including its positive impact on mental health and its role in building resilience in the face of life’s pressures.
Encouraging active participation from teachers and volunteers, the initiative seeks to create a safe and inclusive environment for individuals interested in exploring reading and other creative skills.
The launch event witnessed the presence of various dignitaries, including government officials, educators, and representatives from local schools and organizations, emphasizing the collaborative effort to promote literacy and learning in Soreng District.
