Sikkim: State Band Competition Concludes, Winners Move to Zonal Round

Northeast Desk, 9th October: The State Level Inter-School Band Competition 2024, organised by the State Project Office of Samagra Shiksha, under the Education Department, was held at the West Point Senior Secondary School Ground on October 9.

This prestigious event serves as a key platform for students, with the winners advancing to zonal and national level competitions. The national round will culminate at the War Memorial in New Delhi on the eve of Republic Day.

The event was inaugurated by Raju Basnet, the Minister of Education, Sports & Youth Affairs, Law & Parliamentary Affairs, who served as the chief guest. Other dignitaries included Sonam Denzongpa, Principal Director of the Education Department, and AD Chettri, Additional Director of Samagra Shiksha, alongside various officials from the Education Department.

The competition featured eleven schools from Sikkim, with both girls and boys bands showcasing their musical precision and synchronization in brass and pipe band categories.

The panel of judges comprised PB Gurung from the State Reserve Lines, Narendra Bardewa from the Culture Department, and Nirmal Ramudamu, ASI of Sikkim Armed Police.

In the Girls Brass Band category, West Point Senior Secondary School claimed the top prize, while the Boys Pipe Band competition saw North Sikkim Academy (Mangan), Tashi Namgyal Academy (Gangtok), and Soreng Senior Secondary School (Soreng) emerge victorious.

For the Girls Pipe Band competition, Namchi Girls Senior Secondary School (Namchi), Deorali Girls Senior Secondary School (Gangtok), and Paljor Namgyal Girls Senior Secondary School (Gangtok) secured the top positions. Consolation prizes were awarded to Holy Cross School (Tadong), Modern SSS, Tashi Namgyal SSS, and Kumari Pema Tsedum Govt. S.S. (Rongli).

The event concluded with a vote of thanks by Sushil Tamang, the coordinator of Samagra Shiksha, while Asha Khatri, Joint Director of Samagra Shiksha, presided as the Master of Ceremony. Mr. Pempa Tshering Lepcha, Deputy Director and Nodal Officer of the competition, coordinated the event effectively.
