Sikkim: Swachhata Hi Sewa Campaign Unites Communities in Mangshila to Promote Cleanliness and Sustainability
Northeast Desk, 22nd September: In a remarkable display of community spirit, the “Swachhata Hi Sewa” campaign took place in Mangshila, organized by the Mangshila-Tibuk, Namok-Swayem, and Tingchim-Chanday Gram Panchayats (GPUs), alongside Zilla Territorial constituencies of Mangshila-Tibuk and Tingchim-Chanday. The event attracted significant participation, with notable leaders like Hon’ble Zilla Adhakshya Kado Lepcha, Former Chairperson Chungkipu Lepcha, and Lok Sabha MP Indra Hang Subba as the chief guest.
Subba emphasized the importance of cleanliness as a “jan andolan” (people’s movement), aligning with Prime Minister Modi’s Swachh Bharat vision. He lauded Sikkim’s Open Defecation Free (ODF) Plus status and called on the community to continue striving for cleanliness and sustainability.
Highlighting the issue of solid waste management, Subba urged the adoption of innovative practices, stating that landfills are not a sustainable solution. The campaign concluded with participants pledging to integrate cleanliness into their daily lives, reflecting Gandhiji’s teachings on collective responsibility for a cleaner future.
This initiative follows the statewide Swachhata Hi Sewa campaign launch by the Chief Minister on September 17, 2024.
