Gangtok: The Sikkim Agriculture and Horticulture Department has taken a significant step towards modernizing farming practices in the state.
The department distributed advanced agricultural equipment to 23 farmers under the Sub-Mission on Agricultural Mechanization (SMAM) scheme.
The event, graced by Tenzing Norbu Lamtha, Area MLA and Advisor for the Forest Department, aimed to boost agricultural productivity and reduce manual labor. Farmers received essential tools like power weeders, power tillers, and chaff cutters to streamline operations and increase output.
Lamtha, while addressing the gathering, stressed the importance of adopting modern technologies in farming and urged farmers to make the best use of the distributed equipment. He highlighted the alignment of this initiative with the government’s vision of Atmanirbhar Bharat, emphasizing self-reliance in agriculture.
The event was attended by senior officials, including the District Engineer, Assistant Engineer, Technical Staff, and the Additional Director of Horticulture, signifying the government’s commitment to fostering agricultural growth in the region.
