Sikkim to Conduct First-Ever Multidisciplinary Study on High-Risk Lakes
Northeast Desk, 23rd August: The Sikkim government has announced a groundbreaking initiative to study 16 high-risk lakes in the state. This comprehensive study marks the first time such an in-depth examination will be undertaken for high-risk lakes in Sikkim.
A high-level multidisciplinary team will be formed to carry out this study, comprising experts from the Land Revenue and Disaster Management Department, Science and Technology, Forest, Water Resources, Mines and Geology, and Information and Public Relations departments.
The team is scheduled to conduct the expedition from August 28 to September 14. Their mission includes assessing the risks associated with these lakes and developing effective mitigation strategies to address potential hazards.
This initiative aims to enhance Sikkim’s preparedness and response capabilities concerning lake-related disasters. The study is expected to provide critical insights and recommendations for managing and mitigating risks associated with these high-risk lakes.
