Sikkim to Implement AI-Driven Traffic Management System from May 25

Northeast Desk, 14th May: The Transport Department of Sikkim is set to introduce an Artificial Intelligence (AI) driven Traffic Management System to modernize traffic control and enforcement. Starting from May 25, 2024, the new system will automatically check the validity of documents such as insurance, tax, fitness, pollution under control (PUC), and permits.

Powered by advanced AI algorithms, the system will also detect traffic violations, including speeding, jumping signals, and improper lane usage. Violators will receive e-challans automatically generated as per the Central Motor Vehicles (CMV) Act of 1980.

Approved by the Competent Authority, this cutting-edge system aims to enhance traffic management across Sikkim. Vehicle owners, including those with government vehicles, are advised to ensure their documents are up to date to avoid penalties. Issues regarding e-challans can be reported to the concerned Superintendent of Police (SP) or Regional Transport Office (RTO) of the respective district.
