Sikkim Tourism Goes Digital with New Online Payment System
Gangtok, Sikkim – In a significant step towards modernizing its tourism sector, the Department of Tourism & Civil Aviation, Government of Sikkim, unveiled a dedicated Online Payment System today. The launch coincided with the state’s grand 50th Statehood Day celebrations held at Manan Bhawan, Gangtok.
The digital platform was officially inaugurated by Hon’ble Governor Shri Om Prakash Mathur, graced by the presence of Chief Minister Shri Prem Singh Tamang. This initiative underscores the state government’s dedication to simplifying administrative procedures and fostering a more transparent and business-friendly environment for tourism stakeholders.
Designed to streamline financial transactions, the online system allows owners and operators of various tourism-related establishments, including hotels, homestays, travel agencies, tour operators, photographers, guides, and restaurants, to conveniently make payments for services such as registration, renewal, upgradation, lease/rent, duplicate licenses, and arrears. All these transactions can now be completed through a unified digital interface.
Tourism stakeholders can access this new service via the prominently featured “Payment” button on the Department’s official website. The platform boasts user-friendly navigation, clearly outlined fee structures, and comprehensive step-by-step instructions to guide users through the payment process.
Shri Binod Sharma, Principal Director (Accounts), who spearheaded this digitization effort, highlighted the system’s potential to significantly reduce manual paperwork, expedite approval processes, and enhance accountability within the tourism sector. He emphasized that this online platform represents a transformative shift towards greater convenience for tourism service providers throughout Sikkim.
This move aligns seamlessly with Sikkim’s broader agenda of promoting e-governance and driving economic modernization, particularly in a state where tourism plays a pivotal role in its economy.
