Sikkim Transport Department Implements Cashless Digital Payment System for Bus Bookings

Northeast Desk, 28th June: In a move towards modernization and enhanced convenience, the Sikkim Transport Department has announced the implementation of a cashless digital payment system for booking Sikkim Nationalised Transport (SNT) buses.

Union Civil Aviation Minister Ram Mohan Naidu Kinjarapu applauded the decision, stating that the shift to digital payments aligns with the department’s efforts to reduce cash transactions and streamline the booking process for passengers.

According to a statement released by the department, several digital payment options are now available for passengers:

  1. UPI Payment via Paytm Soundbox: Paytm Soundbox devices equipped with UPI payment options have been installed at all booking counters across the state, including the Siliguri booking office. Passengers can make payments by scanning QR codes provided on these devices.
  2. UPI Payment via Paytm Stickers: QR code-enabled Paytm stickers have been affixed to all SNT buses. Passengers can scan these stickers to complete their payments.
  3. Debit/Credit Card Payment: Point of Sale (PoS) machines are available at the Gangtok and Siliguri booking offices. Passengers can pay by swiping their debit or credit cards or by scanning QR codes on these devices.
  4. Online Bus Ticket Booking: Passengers have the option to book tickets online through platforms like RedBus, PhonePe, and affiliated service providers.
  5. Online Bus Ticket Booking through SIKKIM CAB Mobile App: The SIKKIM CAB Mobile App also facilitates online booking of bus tickets for added convenience.

However, it’s important to note that the transition to a fully digital payment system applies to all SNT buses except for SNT Undertaking buses.

The initiative aims to enhance passenger experience, promote digital transactions, and streamline operations within the state’s transport sector. Passengers are encouraged to utilize these digital payment options for hassle-free bus bookings across Sikkim.
