Sikkim Tribal Representatives Join Republic Day Celebrations in New Delhi

Gangtok: Two tribal representatives from Sikkim, Dorjee Sherpa Pinasa and Jhongmu Bhutia, participated in the 76th Republic Day celebrations in New Delhi, marking a proud moment for the state.

Invited by the Ministry of Tribal Affairs, they were part of a ten-day official visit that included interactions with national leaders and cultural exchanges with tribal delegates from across the country.

A key highlight of their visit was an exclusive interaction with Prime Minister Narendra Modi at his official residence, where they had the opportunity to discuss tribal welfare and cultural preservation.

They also attended a cultural programme at Rashtrapati Bhawan and met President Droupadi Murmu in the Central Hall, further enhancing their experience of national leadership engagement.

Throughout their visit, Pinasa and Bhutia connected with tribal representatives from different states, exchanging ideas on heritage, traditions, and community development.

Their participation underscored the unity and diversity of India’s tribal cultures while showcasing Sikkim’s rich heritage on a national platform.

Accompanying the representatives was Sonam Ongchen Bhutia, Assistant Director from the TRI Division, Social Welfare Department, Government of Sikkim.

The delegation expressed heartfelt gratitude to the Prime Minister, President, and Sikkim Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang for the opportunity. They also extended their appreciation to the Ministry of Tribal Affairs for their warm hospitality and support throughout the visit.
