Sikkim: Vanavasi Kalyan Ashram-Uttarbanga Hosts 14th Collective Marriage Ceremony for Tribal Couples

Northeast Desk, 20th May: Vanavasi Kalyan Ashram-Uttarbanga celebrated its 14th collective marriage ceremony, uniting 108 couples from various tribal communities in a grand event at the Birsa Sishu Shiksha Kendra in Salbari, Siliguri. The ceremony, a testament to communal harmony and cultural richness, was graced by the Hon’ble Governor of Sikkim, Lakshman Prasad Acharya.

The Ashram, dedicated to the welfare and development of tribal societies, marked this collective marriage as a significant milestone in its mission. The event not only strengthened matrimonial bonds but also served as a vital platform for preserving and celebrating indigenous cultures and traditions.

Governor Acharya’s presence added a special touch of honor and encouragement to the ceremony. In his address, he emphasized the importance of such initiatives in fostering social cohesion and supporting the cultural heritage of tribal communities.

“These ceremonies have significantly benefited the tribal community by helping them maintain their cultural and religious practices without economic strain,” remarked Governor Acharya, offering his blessings to the newlywed couples.
