Sikkim’s Archery Gold Cup Enters Thrilling Fourth Day Amidst Enthusiastic Crowds

Gangtok: The archery field in Karthok, Pakyong, became a hub of sporting excitement as the fourth day of Sikkim’s prestigious 23rd Chief Minister’s Compound Archery Gold Cup unfolded. Skilled archers from various corners of the state continued to demonstrate exceptional accuracy and prowess, captivating the large audience that had gathered to witness the action.

The day was made more significant by the esteemed presence of Raju Basnett, the Minister for crucial portfolios including the Education Department, Sports & Youth Affairs Department, Law Department, and Parliamentary Affairs Department. As the chief guest, Minister Basnett commended the young participants for their unwavering discipline and commitment to the sport. He eloquently stated, “In Sikkim, archery transcends mere sport; it embodies our rich cultural heritage and our collective focus. These tournaments serve a dual purpose: they not only cultivate champions but also nurture strong and dedicated individuals within our society.”

Adding to the distinguished attendees was Sudesh Kumar Subba, the MLA representing the Maneybong Dentam Constituency and serving as the Advisor to the Tourism & Civil Aviation Department. As the guest of honour, MLA Subba lauded the diligent efforts of the event organizers and underscored the significant potential of archery as both a cherished traditional sport and a promising career avenue for the youth. He affirmed, “Our government is steadfast in its commitment to providing support for indigenous sports, and it is our sincere hope to witness many talented individuals from our state achieve recognition on both national and international stages.”

Further emphasizing the importance of sports in holistic development, Tashi Chopel, the Secretary of the Education Department, graced the occasion as a Special Guest. He highlighted the critical need for a closer integration of sports within the education system. Secretary Chopel reiterated the department’s dedication to fostering sporting talent from an early age through comprehensive school-level programs and state-sponsored coaching initiatives.

The fourth day of the tournament was marked by intense competitions and crucial elimination rounds as archers fiercely vied for a coveted spot in the upcoming finals. The atmosphere at the venue was electric, with a significant turnout of spectators passionately supporting their local archers. Many attendees expressed their appreciation for the enhanced infrastructure and the seamless organization of the event, which is rapidly establishing itself as one of the most highly regarded archery tournaments in the region.
