Sikkim’s Cultural Splendor Shines at JLF Valladolid Inauguration in Spain

Northeast Desk, 15th June: The inaugural launch of Jaipur Literature Festival (JLF) Valladolid in Spain witnessed the vibrant cultural essence of Sikkim, highlighted by the esteemed presence of Ms. Yishey D. Yongda, District Collector of Soreng. Held from June 13th to 16th, 2024, the second edition of JLF Valladolid, organized by the Valladolid City Council in collaboration with Teamwork Arts, celebrated a fusion of literary and artistic expressions.

Ms. Yishey D. Yongda, invited by the Valladolid City Council and Teamwork Arts, graced the event on June 14th, underscoring the festival’s cross-cultural dialogue between Indian and Spanish literati. The festival provided a platform for authors, poets, and thinkers to engage in profound discussions encompassing literature, ideas, and the intricate intersections of life.

The event attracted distinguished guests including Indian Ambassador to Spain Dinesh Patnaik, renowned authors William Dalrymple, Namita Gokhale, Christina Lamb, and Tishani Doshi. The presence of luminaries such as Vikas Swarup, Nobel Laureate Abhijit Banerjee, Spanish actor & writer Jordi Molla Perales, Valladolid Mayor Jesús Garcia, and Indian filmmaker Shekhar Kapur added glamour and intellectual fervor to the proceedings.

Additionally, the convergence of the inaugural Sikkim Arts & Literature Festival (Khangchendzonga-SALF) with JLF Valladolid enriched the global outreach of cultural exchanges. Ms. Yishey D. Yongda, District Collector of Soreng, envisioned leveraging these partnerships to enhance Sikkim’s Silent Reading program and foster global connections forged at this prestigious literary gathering in Valladolid.
